Dr. Eric Hartelius

Dr. Eric HarteliusDr. Eric Hartelius is a general practitioner and the sole owner of Rondout Valley Veterinary Associates. He was raised in the Hudson Valley, graduating from Rondout Valley High in 1978. He earned his veterinary degree from Cornell University in 1986, graduated from the IVAS veterinary acupuncture program in 2006, and has partially completed the certification program in veterinary rehabilitation. Along with acupuncture and physical therapy he has a special interest in veterinary behavior. He founded RVVA in 1997, first in Grahamsville and then in the Kerhonkson location since 2001.

Dr. Hartelius has been an adjunct professor at SUNY Ulster for 10 semesters. He is an avid cyclist and enjoys hiking, gardening, and playing the violin. His daughter, Cheyenne is a culinary student in Baking and Pastry, and together they care for their 3 dogs; Monica, Mr. Noodles, and Betty, along with their rabbit Peewee.

Dr. Kathleen Laux

Dr. Kathleen LauxDr. Laux currently resides in Rosendale with her Husband and son. She graduated Cornell University of Medicine in 2010 and has been practicing large and small animal medicine since. She is currently working at Rondout Valley Vets focusing on small animal medicine. In the time that she has been in practice she has become proficient in routine care, diagnostics, medical treatments, preventative health care, and with basic and advanced surgical procedures. In her free time she enjoys riding horses, running, and spending time with her family.

Dr. Prescott

Dr. PrescottDr. Prescott graduated from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine with a focus in small animal medicine. She is dedicated to providing compassionate and personalized care. She is certified in Low stress Handling and strives to make each pet visit as pleasant as possible. She has a particular interest in internal and geriatric medicine, dentistry, and nutrition. Dr. Prescott lives in Rosendale with her partner, a shepherd-pit mix named Charlie, a sweet elderly schnauzer mix named Nigel, and a naughty orange cat named Butter. In her free time she can be found exploring the great outdoors, cooking, spending time with her family, and drinking coffee on the patio.


LaurelLaurel has been working in animal hospitals since 1999. Around animals her whole life, she grew up on a sheep farm in Whitehall, NY. Laurel received her B.A. in Psychology from SUNY New Paltz and also studied Veterinary Technology at SUNY Ulster. While attending New Paltz, she started her first animal hospital job and has been working in the field ever since. She has held every position from kennel help to veterinary assistant and now manages Rondout Valley Veterinary Associates. Her personal pet family consists of two Weimaraners, Ludo and Nikki, Twinkie a silly hound mix, and two cats, Kabuki and Braveheart. She loves her work and being able to help pet owners and their furry family members live a happy and healthy life together.


sarahSarah is currently working here at RVVA as an assistant. She is also enrolled in the Veterinary Technology program at SUNY Ulster and anticipates graduating in 2015 as a Licensed Veterinary Technician. Her family at home consists of two cats named Sheba and Judy, and a rat named Mookie. She loves animals and is happy that her job gives her the opportunity to work closely with pets and the people in the community.


cathyCathy was born and raised in Queens, NY. She moved up to the Hudson Valley in 1986 to be closer to nature. While working on her bachelor's degree in English Literature at New Paltz she also worked at a local animal hospital and fell in love. Cathy has now been working in the field for over 25 years. Her love for animals also extends to our local wild friends and she was a licensed rehabilitator for years while raising her two children. Cathy currently lives in Kingston with her 3 cats, "Lil Bit", "Moe", and "Roxy".


deniseDenise has been working at Rondout Valley Vets since 2007. She currently has two wonderful pets; "Denver" her Golden retriever, and "Kirby" the chinchilla. In the past she has been blessed to have a variety of pets in her life. In addition to her love for animals she also volunteers with the local Ambulance Corp.




shondelleShondelle joined the Rondout Valley Vets team in September of 2005. She graduated from Cedar Valley College with an associate's degree in applied science focusing on Veterinary Technology and became a Licensed Veterinary Technician. She is currently working on a certification in canine rehabilitation (CCRP) through the University of Tennessee. Shondelle has been in the animal care field for almost 30 years and she loves it! She enjoys walking on her property with her son, husband and 2 dogs to relax. She shares her home with 2 dogs, 2 cats, a snake and a fish.


jenIn 2007 Jen successfully completed the Veterinary Technology program at SUNY Ulster earning an Associates Degree in Applied Science. Since graduation she has held the positions of Veterinary Assistant and currently is a Receptionist at Rondout Valley Vets. She and her husband share their home with their cat, Smokey and their German Shorthaired Pointer puppy, Trigger. Jen has always had a love for animals and being able to work at Rondout Valley Veterinary Associates has been very rewarding. She looks forward to assisting you and your beloved pets with all of their healthcare needs.


AmandaAmanda has been working as a team member here since October 2007. This isn't just a job for her, it is what she is most passionate about and she can honestly say that she loves her job! Amanda grew up with animals and has always known that she would make a career out of working with them. She currently has two cats named Milo and Mali, one dog named Peter, three goats, Chloe, Fritzy, Jeremiah, and a horse named Kissimmee Kidd. Her animals are part of her family, so she understands how important your pets are to you. Amanda's position here is front desk leader, but she will also lend a hand around the office to help her fellow employees. Her overall goal here is to make sure that you and your pets feel completely welcome and are well taken care of. She looks forward to see you soon.


RebeccaRebecca is one of the newest veterinary assistants here. She has always loved animals and couldn't think of anything better to base her professional career around. Rebecca is currently enrolled in school to become a licensed Veterinary Technician and can't wait to graduate and move on to the next step.





DebDeborah Graduated from SUNY Delhi with an associate degree in applied science in 1975 and has been working as a licensed veterinary technician ever since. Recently she joined the team at Rondout Valley Veterinary Associates and works at their satellite practice, Stone Ridge Veterinary Clinic. She is very excited to continue working with our clients and helping them keep their pets healthy and happy. She currently has two cats, Tubby and Missy. In her free time she enjoys gardening, crocheting, golfing and cross country skiing.
